ARTI&ARCHITETTURA – 1900-2000

Palazzo Ducale
Piazza Matteotti 9
I-16123 Genova
October 2, 2004 to February 13, 2005
Open daily from 10 a.m. to 21 p.m.

The exhibition Arti&Architettura, 1900-2000 documents the 'invasions' of artists from the widest variety of artistic and expressive styles into the world of architecture. At the same time, it shows the digressions of architects into the visual arts. A century long Utopian adventure, which has seen artists and architects planning buildings, spaces, volumes and ideal routes: their colours, materials and shapes were not derived exclusively from functionality, but were born out of creativity at once pure and contaminated, visual and plastic, typical of artistic investigation.
Frederick Kiesler's project of the Endless House from 1959 is presented as well as his Universal Theatre from 1962 and two Galaxies.

Vienna, City of Jews: The world of Tante Jolesch

An exhibition of the Jewish Museum Vienna
May 19th 2004 - 31st October 2004
Jüdisches Museum Wien
Dorotheergasse 11
1010 Wien
Opening Hours: daily 10 am - 6 pm

The exhibition documents the various aspects of the Jewish experience in Vienna during its last flowering. It shows the poverty of the orthodox Jews who had fled the stetls of Galicia, the cafés of the Bohemians and meeting places of the intellectual elite, the offices of the municipal authorities during the "Red Vienna" period, and the salons of the liberal bourgeoisie.
It showcases the history of the Jews in an era before the Holocaust cast its deadly shadow over the city, a time of expansion and change in which Utopian ideals for reforming society and cultural life were rife and Jews and non-Jews alike struggled in a seething social climate for recognition of their ideas.
